Talk 11 on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Dear friends,
The treatise of yoga comes to you only in the precious present, where in the reality unravels! We have been learning many things and finally here we are now to unlearn; to say goodbye to the mind!

Yoga Sutra 25.

Tatra niratisayam sarvajnabijam



God is the matchless seed of all knowledge.

According to Samkhya the manifestation started as qualities. The first evolved quality was Satwa. Satwa is clarity, luminosity and knowledge.

From that base knowledge, Rajas and Tamas manifested which are passion and movement and condensation, stagnancy sleep, darkness and ignorance.

From Tamas ether, air, fire, water and earth evolved respectively. By the further combination among them there evolved the entire Universe.

Looking at Yoga on the point of view of the Samkhya that was the popular philosophy at the time of the codification of Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, one could only interpret Satwa the light and knowledge as the base of creation, which is God and God is the beginning of Nature.

So Patanjali Maharshi was thinking of an unrivalled, incomparable, unsurpassed, matchless source of all knowledge and felt that it is none other than God! God is the all pervading, illimitable and unlimited source. This knowledge is omniscient, omni potent and omni present. That consciousness is itself the incomprehensible seed of all Knowledge and God is that!
