Talk 13 on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
May 2008

Dear Yoga friends,

The treatise of yoga comes to you only in
the precious present, where in the reality unravels! We have been learning many things and finally here we are now to unlearn; to say goodbye to the mind!

Yoga Sutra 27.

Tasya vacakah pranavah

He is worded as Pranava.

Pranava is AUM. God is represented by the sacred syllable AUM.

At the beginning there was word and word was with God. To go a step further one can say that the word is God! The word is the sound and the sound that was there at the beginning of creation was AUM. When I say this I mean at the beginning of manifestation all the principles of creation, existence and withdrawal were there. This is represented by the sound AUM. From that base everything came into being.

Everything exists in AUM and AUM exists in everything. AUM is the sound of completion. Completion indicates coming into being, that is representing creation, preservation that is existence, and destruction that is withdrawal. When we look around we see everything in the manifestation comes into being, exists and withdraws. This is the cycle of manifestation. When one chants the sound AUM properly he senses a feeling that a sound is coming into being when he starts with the sound "A" and as he proceeds, the sound gets modified to "U" giving the feeling of a controlled maintenance and when that sound transforms into "M" it gives the feeling of withdrawal. As the word AUM has all the three basic stages of manifestation it indicates completion and perfection. God is considered as the perfect state of being. It has knowledge and light in it. It has passion and activity in it. It has darkness and ignorance in it. It exists in everything and everything exists in it.

All sounds are coming from the silence; it exists in silence and withdraws into silence. Silence was there before the beginning. Everything happens in this silence. Knowledge rests with silence and sound originates, vibrates and exists with that source knowledge and withdraws itself and leaves back the silence. AUM has in it the knowledge, the passion and ignorance.

God is the reflection of consciousness on Satwa quality. From Satwa, Rajas evolved and from Rajas Tamas evolved. Satwa is the source of creation and AUM represents satwa, Rajas and Tamas. As AUM represents the base of creation AUM is God itself according to the ancient SEERS of India!

Aum Santhi ! Santhi ! Santhi !

I have commited myself
to be available always for all of you and share whatever I have understood during the course of journey of my life, both in the Indian spiritual traditions and beyond, as a seeker if it is of help for you. What we need in this world is few individuals who could commit themselves to explore their own inner world! It is really difficult to find few of them. However I commit myself to be available always!
