Talk 6 on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

October 2007

Dear friends,

The treatise of yoga comes to you only in the precious present, where in the reality unravels! We have been learning many things and finally here we are now to unlearn; to say good bye to the mind!
.................................................................

Yoga Sutra 16.

Tatparam purusaghyatergunavaitirsnyam

Disinterestedness even to the Gunas which are the basic principles of manifestations of prakriti achieved through gaining of knowledge of Purusa is called Para vairagya or supreme detachment.

Detachment as a result of proper discrimination and understanding of the manifestation and liberation are synonymous.

Detachment leads to freedom from the sensory world and consequently from the fluctuations of the mind!

When the fluctuations of the consciousness are arrested or suspended through practice and detachment one enters into a state of integration called samprajnata Samadhi.

.................................................................

Yoga Sutra 17.

VITARKAVICARANANDASMITARUPA-NUGAMAT SAMPRAJNATA

When integration is reached through Vitarka, Vichara, Ananda and Asmita, it is known as Samprajnata Samadhi.

Vitarka is in-depth examination of objects of concentration leading to revealing of its grosser nature and Vichara proper discrimination to find whether the object presented is real or unreal.

Through discrimination the reality hidden in appearance is revealed and that revelation itself is the joy of discrimination and when it goes beyond bounds is known as Ananda.

There comes the further exploration - who is enjoying? It is the I-sense that is the kartha as well as the bhokta, the doer and the enjoyer.

There one come across the self. Abiding in that self is Samprajnata Samadhi. There is another kind of integration which is called Asamprajnata Samadhi.

Aum Santhi ! Santhi ! Santhi !

I have commited myself
to be available always for all of you and share whatever I have understood during the course of journey of my life, both in the Indian spiritual traditions and beyond, as a seeker if it is of help for you. What we need in this world is few individuals who could commit themselves to explore their own inner world! It is really difficult to find few of them. However I commit myself to be available always!
